About the job

The Director of Development is responsible for oversight, proactive planning, and successful execution of a comprehensive fundraising program, and to position Servants for future success, growth, and sustainability. The Director of Development reports to the CEO and serves as a member of the senior leadership team that includes the CEO and Chief Program Officer. The Director of Development plays a key leadership role in ensuring that Servants fulfills its mission, maintains a values-based organizational culture, and accomplishes its financial goals.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

  • Lead a partnership with the Senior Leadership Team, Board of Directors and staff to design and fulfill annual fundraising strategy and goals

  • Oversee and direct the implementation of the annual development plan

  • Design strategies and tactics for growth and success across all areas of fundraising

  • Monitor fundraising results and consistently report progress to the CEO and the Board of Directors; participate inthe Board Meetings and Committees, as requested

  • Lead quantitative and qualitative evaluation of fundraising outcomes, resulting in informed, data-driven, andinvestor-centric strategies

  • Work closely and collaboratively with the CEO and the Board Development Committee to build and empower the Board’s capacity, capability, consistency, and confidence in fundraising 

  • Generate new ideas that increase revenue and investor longevity

Annual Giving, Major Gifts, Corporate Giving & Grants

  • Collaborate with the CEO in the creation of a strategy for a large, sustained base of annual individual donors

  • Connect organizational mission and results to investor’s philanthropic goals and ambitions

  • Design and drive strategies for annual giving program, including online giving and direct mail

  • Direct and execute a strong, consistent, relational major gifts program and systematize a planned giving program • In collaboration with the CEO secure support for Servants’ initiatives through creative, innovative events andgiving opportunities

  • Develop, in partnership with the CEO the annual strategy and goals for philanthropic events

  • Manage staff and contractors in event logistics and administration, ensuring impeccable event logistics & results

  • Develop a comprehensive corporate giving strategy to engage corporations in supporting Servants’ initiatives

  • In collaboration with the CEO secure support for Servants’ initiatives through creative, innovative events andgiving opportunities

  • In collaboration with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and contracted grant writer, develop annual grant strategyand goals that build and sustain relationships with private foundations

  • Collaborate with program staff and CEO to refine grant-seeking strategies, cultivate funders, review grantapplications, and finalize reports

  • Collaborate with the CEO and program staff to cultivate funders and review grant applications and reports 

  • Develop and track proposals, outcomes, and reporting requirements for all grants

  • Manage the implementation of Servants customer relationship management software, responsible staff, and the process for data entry and gift processing

Development and Philanthropic Communications

  • In conjunction with the CEO and the Director of Outreach, develop a comprehensive development-focused communications strategy, integrating into Servants’ larger plan for a growing awareness of Servants’ impact and role in the community

  • Manage donor communications for high-level, strategic fundraising opportunities

  • Communicate fundraising goals throughout the organization and empower team members to participate in accomplishing Servants’ annual goals

Qualifications

Essential Characteristics

  • Demonstrated commitment to Christ and an understanding of the role missions plays in fulfilling the Great Commission to make disciples of all people

  • Passion and commitment to the vision of Servants

  • Spiritual Leadership: heart for prayer, commitment to personal growth and consistent dependence on Jesus

  • An understanding of leadership as servanthood

Education and Experience

  • At least 5 years of overall professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function

  • Education may vary; an advanced degree in business administration or marketing is preferred, but not required

  • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time

  • Significant board development, fundraising, marketing/branding and fiscal management experience a must

Physical Requirement

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization’s physical premises
