Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Statement & Policy

The Coalition for Home Repair is committed to creating an environment that is diverse,
inclusive, and equitable where all staff, members, partners, vendors, board members, and
beneficiaries of home repair are treated with respect and dignity.

  • We define diversity broadly to acknowledge the intersectionality of identity based on
social constructs and environmental conditions, including individual privileges and
disadvantages influenced by gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sexual identity,
familial status, age, disability, socio-economic status, educational status, and geography.
  • Inclusion is valuing, respecting, and encouraging the full participation of everyone in the
life and leadership of the organization and its mission.
  • Equity is a process that ensures all people can contribute, develop, and grow despite
historical, structural, legislative, racial, and socio-economic inequities.
We are an organization that celebrates the richness of our communities nationwide. We will not
tolerate discrimination, biases, harassment, or bullying of any kind. We are committed to
demonstrating through evidenced-based practices that home repair is an essential method to
proactively reduce homelessness, protect marginalized populations' generational assets, and
stabilize neighborhoods of low-income homeowners within rural and urban areas.

Through our dedication to address historical and systemic bigotry, we will protect
homeownership for future generations, lessen the number of low-income homeowners who are
displaced into unaffordable rental markets, and reduce the wealth gap of disenfranchised
populations. Furthermore, CHR fosters DEI by bringing low-income homeowners' stories and
repair needs alongside the affordable housing needs of low-income renters.
As an organization and board of directors, we agree to be guided by these principles and pledge
that they will be reflected in our vision, mission, strategic planning, programming, governance,
and board composition. Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion extends to our staff,
our members, and programs we develop and support.
