Home Repair Solutions Lab
Where Innovation Meets Action
The housing challenges facing our communities are too complex for presentations alone. That's why the Coalition for Home Repair is combining the best elements of a traditional conference with the collaborative problem-solving power of a Solutions Lab.
The Home Repair Solutions Lab brings together housing practitioners, funders, policymakers, researchers, and community partners to move beyond discussion and toward practical solutions that strengthen and scale home repair programs nationwide.
Unlike traditional conference sessions that focus primarily on sharing information, the Solutions Lab creates space for participants to work together, test ideas, explore emerging models, and develop strategies that can be implemented in their own communities.
Building on Proven Success
In 2024, the Coalition proudly led and presented at the Home Repair Solutions Lab in Detroit, a full-day forum focused on advancing bold, practical solutions for home repair. The event convened housing practitioners, funders, and corporate and philanthropic partners united by a shared commitment to preserving safe, healthy homes.
Participants heard from leading experts, including keynote speaker Todd Swanstrom, Ph.D., Des Lee Professor of Community Collaboration and Public Policy Administration at the University of Missouri–St. Louis and co-author of a landmark Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University report on home repair programs.
Through expert panels, facilitated discussions, and interactive workgroups, attendees explored:
- Universal home repair assessment tools
- Innovative funding strategies, including the Detroit Home Repair Fund
- Cross-sector partnerships and collaborative funding models
- Data-driven approaches to measuring impact
- Strategies for aligning programs and resources across organizations
The result was more than a day of learning—it was a catalyst for collaboration, helping partners identify shared challenges, develop practical solutions, and strengthen local home repair ecosystems.
Why Attend?

- Build relationships with funders, researchers, and community partners
