About the Position

Located in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina, Hammer & Heart serves low-income families of the Swannanoa Valley. The Program Director will collaborate with staff, donors, contractors, volunteers and other funding/relief agencies to provide urgent home repairs for low-income families. 

Key Responsibilities

Mission & Leadership

• Champion the mission, vision, and values of Hammer & Heart and SVCM
• Provide leadership and oversight to Hammer and Heart staff (Administrative Assistant and Project Manager)
• Coordinate with other local nonprofits and divisions of SVCM to provide holistic (whole-person) care for the families we serve

Operations & Program Management

• Oversee all home repair operations, including project management, staffing, contractor hiring, volunteer coordination, material costs, and equipment use
• Develop and implement efficient systems and processes, including vetting processes, the disbursement of funds and resources, hiring of builders, and operational procedures ○ Ensure legal, fiscal, and nonprofit compliance in all program operations.
• Prepare bi-monthly progress reports for the Executive Director and the SVCM Board of Directors

Financial Management

• Work with the Hammer & Heart Advisory Team and the SVCM Executive Director on budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation
• Ensure that fiscal systems are adhered to and maintained

Communications, Fundraising & Relationship Development

• Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, clients, contractors, and volunteers
• Recruit donors, contractors, and volunteers to support the mission
• Collaborate with the SVCM Communications and Public Relations Manager on marketing, emails, social media, stories, and newsletters
• Support grant writing and fundraising initiatives alongside the Executive Director

The Hammer & Heart division of SVCM delivers urgent home repairs to low-income families who are unable to maintain their homes in a safe and livable condition.
